The government of Tamil Nadu has decided not to conduct class 10th exams and remaining exams of class 11th this year. The decision came after the Madras High Court asked the government to consider postponing the exams as the number of cases of COVID-19 positive people continues to grow. Final decision on class 12th exams will be taken later.
For class 11th, exams of subjects such as chemistry and accountancy could not be held. The supplementary and arear exams for class 12th students have been postponed and fresh dates will be announced later.
In Chennai and some other districts, COVID-19 cases are on rise and Mr. Palaniswami said epidemiologists have opined that there is no scope for reduction in the spread of pathogens. Hence, considering the representation of parents and present trend of coronavirus spread, the board exams of class 10th and for the subjects that could not be conducted for class 11th are fully canceled and students are declared promoted.
New agency ANI has tweeted quoting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, “Students of 10th and 11th grades to be promoted on the basis of quarterly and half-yearly exam results as well as their attendance; their exams stand canceled. The decision regarding class 12th exams will be taken in the coming days. ”
